Brumbies coach Andy Friend has questioned whether the police should have been called out to the Perth Airport following an incident on the plane.

Police rushed to Perth Airport on Thursday night after the flight's pilot complained that some of the players got out of their seats when the seat belt sign was on during turbulence.

Friend told ABC news that the reaction of the local police was a "little bit over the top".

"I don't know whether having 30 police was necessary, but anyway that's what happened," he said.

Friend pointed out that the seat belt light had been on for several hours and the players left their seats as they wanted to use the toilet.

"We had a couple of players who stood up when the seat belt sign was on," he said.

"The seat belt sign had been on for about three hours and we got big blokes in small seats, who needed to go to the toilet."

"That was it."

The Brumbies play the Western Force in their opening Super 14 match in Perth on Friday.
