Failure to take chances was Stormers downfall

Stormers coach Allister Coetzee (pictured) said his side created pressure but were unable to exploit their opportunities after they lost 19-17 to the Brumbies in their Super 14 match at Newlands on Friday evening.

"When we put pressure on the Brumbies we did not score," said Coetzee.

"When we failed to score points after dominating we let ourselves down. The players did not stick to our game plan and the players agreed afterwards in the dressing room that they played badly.

"There were a few lessons that we learnt out there tonight and the defeat really hurt us.

"Full credit to the Brumbies for the way they played. They played 'Test' rugby tonight and they took the points when they were on offer."

Stormers captain Andries Bekker said his side would need to work on their discipline because far too many passes were knocked on or dropped.

"It was one of those games when nothing went right for us and we need to address discipline," said Bekker.

"There was never a question of effort, it was just a matter of using our chances and we did not do that this evening."

Coetzee said the team's line-out was a worrying factor but he hoped to fine tune the set-piece before his side face the Hurricanes next week.

Brumbies coach Andy Friend said patience was the key factor in his side's last-gasp victory.
